ACP-MIT Hackathon FAQ

ACP is collaborating with MIT’s renowned Hacking Medicine program to bring together forward-thinking healthcare professionals, engineers, designers, developers, and technologists to develop interdisciplinary hacks (solutions) to improve clinical workflows.

What is ACP’s Hackathon?

Hackathons provide a unique platform to solve problems with intense teamwork and collaboration in a limited amount of time. ACP is collaborating with MIT’s Hacking Medicine program to bring together professionals spanning the whole healthcare ecosystem to develop interdisciplinary hacks (solutions) to improve clinical workflows. No technical expertise is required.

Why is this Hackathon only four hours?

ACP made the decision to introduce a hackathon platform within the Internal Medicine Meeting by condensing the time to four hours. ACP has partnered with MIT to form a concentrated session while still incorporating all of the design skills and toolbox items used in MIT’s traditional health hackathon.

Will CME be offered?

Yes, CME credits will be available to physicians who participate in the Hackathon.

What can I expect at the Hackathon?

You’ll have the opportunity to work with allied health professionals, technologists, designers, developers, and others to build innovative prototypes. You’ll leave the Hackathon with dynamic tools to invent your own solutions and collaborative insight into the current challenges that impact physician well-being.

Do I have to register for Internal Medicine Meeting 2019 to participate in the Hackathon?

No. Meeting registration is not a requirement for participation.

Can I show up to the event without applying?

No. We have a limited amount of spaces open for the event, so all interested parties must apply by February 11. You will be notified if you have been selected to participate by February 25.

Will prizes be awarded?

Yes. Prizes will be awarded to the top three teams.

What should I bring with me?

Nothing is required. Feel free to bring a smartphone, laptop, and, of course, your ideas, and creativity.

Is there a cost to attend?

No. Participation is free.

Will food be available?

Yes. A continental breakfast and coffee will be served.

Should I have a team organized in advance?

No. Participants will be asked to self-select into teams on site based on their interest in pitches given during the event.

Will there be a final presentation?

Yes. Teams will be asked to deliver a brief presentation of their ideas to a panel of judges.  The judges will select the top three teams. Criteria for the judges’ selections will be described during the event.
